Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a community of learners who are excited about the opportunity to learn new concepts. They enjoy all of their new experiences with the infusion of technology and science in our classroom. With the Next Generation Science Standards, students study phenomena as a scientist. They are curious and motivated to learn more about the world around them.
I believe that this curiosity to learn will create a passion that will lead them to become lifelong learners.
My STEAM Makerspace allows students to explore concepts during class and on their own time. My students and students from other classes take the initiative to come in before school and during morning recess to take advantage of extra opportunities to learn.
My students made a presentation to our PTA! They taught parents to code during Open House. They hosted coding sessions where entire classes in kindergarten through fifth grade learned to code. They assisted in instructing teachers how to code robots, use Makey Makey and explore augmented reality. My former students teach my new class of fourth graders how to code. We have a team participating in a robotics competition. They truly have developed a passion for teaching others to code.
My Project
Our Surface Go will be used as a station to publish student's writing. Currently, students have to wait to publish until my teacher computer is available. The Surface Go will allow students to be more independent and publish as they finish a piece of writing.
This docking station will support our Surface Go which will serve as the brain for my STEAM Makerspace.
Students will be able to log in/out robots, iPads, Merge Cubes, and other materials through it. It will also be used to research Engineering, Science, Technology, and Math. This docking station will charge our Surface Go and will allow students to view their research on a full-size monitor. In essence, making the Surface Go compatible with a desktop computer. This docking station gives students the ability to connect our Surface Go to an Ethernet connection, external speakers, and more.
