My Project
These tools are for a culminating project of our novel study of Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen. My students will carve totems using the Dremel and carving tools to create a meaningful and personalized totem that connects to the text and themselves. We will study various symbols and meanings, and students will choose from various options to carve their totems into 2 x 3 x 12 blocks of wood. This will create a tangible learning opportunity for my students that struggle with reading and reading interest in a remote bush village in Alaska.
