My Students
Do you remember what is was like the first time you read a book that you couldn't put down? Unfortunately some of my students have not been able to experience that because it is so difficult for them to read on their own. The students I teach not only struggle with reading but with writing as well.
My students are hard working 2nd graders who try to keep up with the ever changing fast paced world.
Since I teach in a ICT class (this means that about half of the students are special education students) many struggle with reading text and are easily bored when they have to read for more than a few minutes. They also struggle a great deal with writing. All students can achieve but they do so at different paces and in different ways. An ipod touch will help further differentiate instruction and meet the students different learning styles.
My Project
An ipod touch would be a new and exciting way to get students to not only read a story but to be able to listen to one as well. The ipod touch could also help across curriculum. Many students have wonderful writing ideas but have trouble getting those ideas onto paper because they can not remember the details long enough. With an ipod touch, they can record their ideas with the teacher and then play it back slowly so that they can write down their brilliant stories at their own pace. This allows students to take ownership of their work and feel more independent.
After receiving the ipod touch devices the students will be able to gain more independence and ownership of their work.
The devices will also help to differentiate instruction even further and address different types of learning styles along the way.
