Touch Technology and Sensory Toys for Speech-Language Students

My students need an iPad with plenty of memory for speech/language therapy apps, a sturdy case to keep the iPad safe, and sensory toys to motivate students to request and communicate.

My Students

I work with students who have difficulty communicating with their peers and teachers. These are a great group of kids that can't completely express themselves or process receptive communication. My students range from mild articulation deficits to severe autism. Several of my students are nonverbal and struggle with the most basic concepts of communication. Regardless of the severity they are all being held back to some degree.

Communication is everything, it is the how students make friends, learn to read and write, socialize and interact with teachers; yet, my students are blocked from being about to communicate freely which holds them back from fully participating in their education.

My Project

My students need an iPad in order to help improve their motivation in speech language therapy, as well as take advantage of the fantastic communication therapy apps that are available to them. My students also need more sensory items to motivate them to communicate basic requests

My students will be able to use the iPad to participate in language and articulation activities with interactive books together, allowing them to explore and improve their communication abilities.

They will also use the iPad in group articulation therapy in order to improve their speech articulation and intelligibility. There are so many other areas in which this technology can augment my students' learning, such as social skills, syntax, vocabulary, and formulating sentences.
