My Students
My students are brilliant learners, but the world hasn't caught up to the way we all learn. Technology is one of the tools that allows my students to participate in challenging academic curriculum. Touchscreen computers are one piece to help level the playing field.
My students are Kindergarten to Second graders.
My students vary in disabilities, but most of my kids fall under the disability of Autism. My students are full of personality and love learning. They are fascinated by all things technological, and have learned a lot by the current technology in the class. Though my school is supportive of the technological needs, we are still catching up to all of the great learning possibilities available.
My Project
My students struggle to access typical curriculum supports, (e.g., textbooks, pencils, paper). Though we work on developing the skills needed to access these typical supports (e.g., fine motor control, visual attention, etc.), we also want to provide access to curriculum at the level our students can engage in. Computers provide high interest visual stimuli, and touchscreen computers allow students with fine motor control issues to access all of the great differentiated learning programs available. 21st century skills are a new but important part of our students' curriculum and these monitors will help our students develop and maintain skills needed to be successful.
These monitors improve the classroom is a variety of ways.
First and foremost are the education opportunities that they provide. My kids will be able to work independently on curriculum, giving the classroom the opportunity to enhance small group learning. Additionally, due to the high level of interest, the computers hold on my students' maladaptive behavior will decrease when my students are left to work independently.
