My Students

Curious, imaginative, creative and adaptive! That's how I describe my 7th ad 8th grade amazing students. Most of my students belong to low-income families but I always believe that lack of resources should not become a hindrance or limit to access quality education.

I believe in the theory of multiple intelligences which explains that students learn differently.

I use various strategies to accommodate the learning needs not just to the regular students but also to the English learners and those with IEP. It became an added challenge when we transitioned to distance learning last March due to Covid. Since we have no other choice but to adapt to change, additional teaching tool is highly needed whether next school year will be in the classroom or online.

My Project

Teaching in a diverse population with different learning need is already tough but the sudden transition for distance learning due to Covid-19 adds up to the challenge. Aside from the achievement gap that I am trying to meet, distance learning resulted to physical gap with my students since we all need to stay home for safety.

Technology plays a vital role in closing the achievement gap in my class and my physical gap with my students.

Using slideshows, simulation activities, and videos were some of the tools that I used in online teaching. Using laptop has certain limitations that I can do easier on an iPad. Since an iPad has touchscreen feature, I can use a stylus pen to easily draw, circle, write or underline facts or pictures to emphasize the important information that I want to point out. Distance learning limits my students the access to some hands-on experiments too. Using iPad, I can also download application programs and simulation activities where they can still learn-by-doing.

If the school decides to go back to classroom teaching next school year, having an iPad will be very useful since I have AppleTV. I am hoping that you will grant my request for an iPad cause my students are ready to touch and learn.
