This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I will use these materials to teach the students about Totem Poles. We will learn the history and the art concepts, dance a totem pole dance, and finally use these drums to play our own music in the style of Native American Rhythms.

The goal of this project is for students to learn about Totem Poles and Native American culture through the arts.

Valuing Nature is a sub-component of the lesson as students imitate animals in their creative dance. They learn the spiritual meaning of animals to Native Americans and what the Totem Pole did to tell stories.

My students and teachers love this dance and will take it to a new level with these large drums similar to Native American drums,
