Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We have a rare solar eclipse that will be passing through Massachusetts on April 8th, 2024. This exciting event is a great learning opportunity for our students!

It is my goal to create a meaningful scientific experience for my students by providing a safe way to observe this amazing natural phenomenon and spark an interest in the science behind it.

To do so, students must be equipped with certified eclipse glasses to safely observe as the moon slowly begins to block the sun from our view. In addition to observing this phenomenon, I am planning to host a school-wide celebration in which students will learn about the eclipse and the power of the sun through various STEAM activities.

After the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, the next total solar eclipse that can be seen from the contiguous United States will be in 2044. This is a special opportunity to create a lasting memory with the students in my school! As a science teacher, I also hope that it will inspire my students to pursue careers and education within the fields of science as they are so underrepresented in the community.
