My students need math materials such as a paper trimmer, electric pencil sharpeners, dice, geometry shapes, foam counters, dry erase boards and clipboards.
A tornado destroyed my classroom, including my math resources and materials.
I teach math to 6th grade students at a Title 1 school in Moore, Oklahoma.
My students are energetic, social, and need lots of love and support. On March 25, 2015 a tornado ripped through our school and destroyed most of our materials. Our entire school has been displaced to a local church to complete the school year.
My Project
The math manipulatives I am requesting are critical to the success of my students in understanding 6th grade math concepts and skills. Manipulatives are key components needed to master a higher level of number sense and understanding. My students will be using the materials individually and in group settings, while I will also be demonstrating concepts to my students in a whole group setting. Specifically, we will be using the dice to gain a better understanding of operations in working with integers. The clipboards will be used at menu station activities. We will use the dry erase boards to monitor student progress and allow them to have a more active role in their understanding. The counters will be used for adding and subtracting positive and negative integers.
You can help replace part of what was taken by the tornado.
I am trying to create a classroom as similar to our former classroom, in order to provide stability and structure in the midst of the storm. My students need to feel safe and secure, and providing them with materials to learn again will assist in that process. Donors make such an important impact in the education of a child, so I thank you in advance for your donations, support, and prayers.
