My Students

Help! We are in a sad situation. We have flipped the Captain Underpants Flip-O-Rama so many times that their is nothing left but an elastic. Our Ramona books are so old that they should now titled Ramona Quimby Age 80. Seriously, we need something new to read!!!

My kids are second graders with a passion for reading.

This is especially exciting as many of my kids are from Mexico, East Africa, Vietnam, China, and Russia. That means they are learning to read in a second language. Cool, huh. Well, that's not all. We also have a huge number of inner city students that help create the best school ever. We all work together to create a strong school community that includes students, teachers, families, community partners, and neighbors. With all of that going on, it is still hard to provide my students with updated and interesting reading materials. The budget cuts are getting to everyone but it seems like we were really hit hard this year (and last year, and the year before that).

My Project

I want new books for my classroom. Nice new books in nice new book boxes to replace the well loved texts we are using now. I have requested sets of leveled readers so that the students can easily identify texts that will match their growing abilities. The many levels means that everyone will have something to read. Silent reading, buddy reading, teacher reading, it all can be sooo much better if we don't have to worry about the pages falling out.

Early education is such a pivotal point in the life of a learner.

Interests, behaviors, and attitudes are starting to cement themselves. I am sure you remember the feeling of satisfaction you felt when you shared new learning with a friend, teacher, or family member. My kids love to read and they will read even more with the draw of a new library. This is the kind of gift that can really have an impact. Plus, they are so unbelievably cute!!
