Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every day, regardless of the challenges in their lives, my students work relentlessly hard to grow academically, social-emotionally, and become justice-oriented individuals. My students use their knowledge and skills to eliminate the various systems of oppression that keep them and their families from achieving their full potential.
My class is a group of passionate, funny, freedom-fighting, and inquisitive kids who want to use their education to improve their lives and community.
Our students' daily lives are full of adversity. At our school, one hundred percent of students qualify and receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students face many challenges at home; however, this does not get in the way of their success. Instead, they remain perseverant and continue to strive for and achieve excellence.
My Project
COVID-19 took me by surprise. Overnight, the profession I love radically changed. I replaced my whiteboard with a 12-inch screen. I answered more emails than ever before and learned to combat Zoom fatigue. As for my students, they traded in their pencils and notebooks for keyboards and trackpads.
Although our learning environment changed, one thing remained the same: our drive to improve.
We never ceased learning or striving to become better versions of ourselves.
Nobody can say with a 100% certainty that schools will reopen in the fall. However, during the summer, I will do everything I can to learn the instructional strategies that will allow me to give my students the education they deserve. I am committed to my learning. Online or in-person, my students will receive the type of education that will help them develop the skills and mindsets they need to improve the quality of life.
I am requesting professional development books that focus on blended learning. These books will help me discover the best pedagogical strategies for the digital age.
