Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hola`! Ni-hao! Ciao! I teach ELL (English Language Learner) students from 12 different countries of varying English levels. We believe everyone can achieve the American dream. We want our students to feel confident that they can succeed and fulfill their hopes and dreams no matter where they come from and what kinds of challenges this new way of living is bringing to us.

Our school is a Title I school with many living at the poverty level.

The students love coming to school because it's a safe learning environment with a caring staff and support system. Most of the students in our class are Hispanic newcomers, with a few Asian, Middle Eastern, and Eastern European. With so many different cultures and languages in the classroom, we feel a sense of unity when the students get a chance to engage with technology. Even though there are so many differences going on, students of different cultures find the ability to communicate especially when technology is at the forefront.

We are fortunate enough to have a 6th grade STEM cohort this school year to raise levels of creativity, and scientific and mathematical thinking. These are the job skills that are in high demand.

My Project

Students need to have access to the latest in tech tools so they can stay ahead of the curve. Having the most up to date MacBook in the classroom will inspire students to go beyond their expectations to use and interact with technology and ed tech tools.

A new MacBook can open the creative minds of students to try something new and further their interest in STEM learning.

Students will use the MacBook in the media center to create and edit short video clips using iMovie. It can also serve as podcast recording station. With the latest technology they will be eager to try it out and put the focus back into learning.

They can also see how older generations and upgrades to tech are needed for future careers. With this addition we can have a mini Mac lab for our ELL students and give them an educational experience that is unparalleled to any other.
