Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are from the South Bronx and they are resilient, funny, wildly creative and genuine. They are also extremely vulnerable, being from the poorest congressional school district in the country and the hardest hit neighborhood from Covid in all of New York. My students are going to give their all this year in a hybrid learning model and I want to give them every possible opportunity to succeed while they're in our building.
Many of my students are first generation graduates from African American and Latinx families, they're community organizers, social justice warriors, volunteers and interns; they are the future of NYC.
My Project
This year is one of uncertainty and my students need a safe learning environment that they can feel confident in. I want to have the best air filtration available to my students who will be in my room for most of the day. Students will be engaging in project based learning in a socially distanced classroom that I will ensure is comfortable, safe, supportive and engaging.
The safety of my students and their families is my top priority and having the best air filtration system available is something they deserve.
My literature classroom is a friendly and comfortable oasis of calm for reading, writing and learning. I want to continue to have a safe, comfortable and inspiring space that my students to look forward to coming to every day to learn.
