This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

How can you continue a recorder program without any recorders? I currently teach music at a K-5 school in a high needs community in New York. 100% of our student body receives a free lunch.

Last year I began a recorder program for our 3rd-5th grade students. They have thrived and as the they move onto their next grades they cannot wait to continue. I project that I will need approximately 150 recorders for next year so that every child who did not receive music last year will be able to join our recorder adventure. Last year I was able to obtain these materials through my school and use donors choose to help us get recorders for our students to take home. Sadly, our budget is cut and I will not receive any recorders as of now.

My students need Yamaha recorders to continue the work we began last year with new music students joining our classes this coming year! Students who take recorder in our school are reading proficiently on the treble clef by the end of the year. We have concerts and they are amazed with themselves and their accomplishments.

Anyone who has ever played an instrument knows the joy and pride that comes with performing and learning something you never thought was possible. The kids in our school don't have a lot of creative outlets and playing the recorder is just the first step in their musical journey, a way to help them learn to read music and express themselves musically in the future. You will make the joy of a life a music begin for a student with your help.
