Help me give my students TOON Books! Comics can be a great supplement to help inspire love and enjoyment for reading. These comics will give my superheroes the reading confidence they need while boosting reading and language skills.

My Students

The superheroes in my class are an amazing group of diverse learners who learn best in the small class setting. My class includes a combination of kindergarten, first grade, and second-grade students. While each student in my care has individual academic, social, and/or emotional needs, all of my students demonstrate below-average reading skills which impact their ability to read grade-level texts. I am passionate about exposing my superheroes to a variety of texts to cultivate a love for reading.

My Project

TOON Books offer a whole new approach to books for beginning readers. They feature original stories and characters created by veteran children’s book authors, renowned cartoonists and new talents, all applying their extraordinary skills to fascinate young children with tales that will welcome them to the magic of reading. Comic books do a great job of teaching the building blocks of reading in a visual way. Students can develop inference skills by studying the pictures. I love TOON books because they offer exciting, rewarding reading material specifically for developing readers. Funding this project will help to further diversify the classroom library with developmentally appropriate comics which will inspire my superheroes to love reading!
