Tools to Remove Barriers in Learning

My Project

The Universal Design for Learning's (UDL) goal is to make sure all students have equal opportunity to succeed. One way to make this happen is to address barriers to learning. We do this often in class by building background knowledge, providing accommodations, giving feedback, and addressing social and emotional needs. I also do this by providing students with tools. Most tools are borrowed from Occupational Therapists and are hard to get by. The need for these tools is much higher than what is available.

Many of my students would benefit from having access to these tools!

I want these tools to be available to all of my students so they can find what helps them be successful.

The wobbly seats have been game-changers in my classroom for the two students who have them. They can get their wiggles and energy out responsibly and respectfully.

I have borrowed noise-cancelling headphones in the past and it has helped students focus in class or feel comfortable during assemblies. If they were readily available and encouraged I know other kids would benefit too!

The voice amplifier will ensure that my voice is heard from all areas of the classroom. Most importantly with the wireless microphone, I can raise students' voices! In my class, we are all students and we are all teachers. I want my students to hear each other just as much as I want them to hear me.
