Help me give my students the fidgets, wobble cushions, and other tools they need when they need to refocus and calm themselves down during the school day.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My elementary school is filled with students who want to learn, grow, and improve themselves. They set academic, social, and physical goals to help improve them as an individual to better their lives the best that they can. My students come from low-income families and from tough home lives. Because of their situations, they don't get to experience that many fun, inspirational activities. School is the place where we can help them have lifelong, unforgettable experiences.

My Project
Students are experiencing trauma and mental health issues more these days then ever. They are experiencing emotions and feelings that they don't completely understand or know how to control them. These different sensory items and resources will help us teach students how to identify their emotions that they are feeling and be able to pick a tool or resource to help them refocus and calm their emotions so they can return to the classroom to be ready to learn. For instance, the fidgets and squishies they can use with their hands and distract their mind instead of focusing on the negative thoughts or emotions they are experiencing. The fidgets and squishies will help them calm down and start to think of their breathing to relax as they use the fidget and then be able to talk and express their emotions and listen to how to finish refocusing so they can return back to class to continue learning instead of shutting down. These sensory tools and emotional resources will help our students to have more successful days at school even if they are having a rough time emotionally.
