Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach kindergarteners in a public school. For many of them, this is their very first school experience—and it’s a big one! Each day, my students come in with open hearts and curious minds, eager to learn and explore. My goal is to create a classroom environment that is not only academically rich but also nurturing, organized, and full of joy.

This project includes essential tools that will support my students’ early literacy, foundational math skills, independence, and classroom routines.

For example, the Hand2Mind sound wall card set will help students connect letter sounds to the way their mouths form words—an important strategy for developing strong phonics and spelling skills, especially for emerging readers and English language learners. The number line to 185 will serve a dual purpose: it will help us explore math concepts like counting, number patterns, and sequencing, and we’ll also use it to track each of the 180 days of school. It becomes a visual, interactive way for students to understand time and celebrate the progress they make throughout the year.

Other items in this project will help keep our learning environment organized and hands-on. The oversized dry erase pockets allow students to practice writing and math skills repeatedly without wasting paper. The chair organizers provide each child with a personal space for their books and folders—something that fosters independence and keeps our shared space neat. The classroom jobs pocket chart helps students build responsibility and a sense of community as they take on roles like "line leader” or "materials manager.”

With your support, my students will have what they need to feel successful, take ownership of their learning, and develop a lifelong love of school. Thank you for helping us start our year strong and setting the stage for a joyful and enriching kindergarten experience.
