This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school serves students in grades ETK-6. We are a Title I public school from the inner-city. More than 95% of our students qualify to receive free meals. Most of our students get dropped off and arrive at school at 7:00 AM and continue to stay at school until 6:00 PM. In other words, our school is their home away from home.
I work with energetic and motivated bunch of students from kindergarten to third grade.
I would love to have the opportunity to create an environment that empowers my students to reach their full potential as scholars and citizens of the 21st-century.
My Project
According to National Council for Teachers of Mathematics Standards, students must be presented with math manipulatives to build students' confidence with mathematics. One of the guiding principles in good teaching is to provide relevance. The use of manipulatives will accomplish this by making abstract mathematical ideas concrete. With the right kind of math tools, students can see the physical evidence as to how math concepts are applied. This will enable them to more readily make connections to mathematical vocabulary and symbols.
As a Primary Promise Math Coach, I work with students with a grade span, from kinder to 3rd grade that have demonstrated substantial learning challenges in math.
Each object will be used for counting arrays.
The first two items in particular will double as prizes for students. The portable collapsible 5 holes game set will be used as incentives on our weekly Fun Fridays. While playing the game, students will practice computational skills to add the total number of slots they have scored. All the other items will be using to engage students for each specific real-world lesson related to math standards.
