My students need to be equipped with the writing tools (composition notebooks, a pencil sharpener, paper, Dry erase markers and erasers) that will help them learn and create.
I love middle school students! They are full of energy, questions, and creativity. Working with 7th and 8th graders during my student teaching reassured me daily that I am pursing the best career. I haven't met my students for this coming school year yet, but I can't wait to get to know them!
My students have so much to teach me.
They will be the purpose, directing force, and lifeblood of my very first class. Each one of them will bring their unique struggles, gifts, and fun quirks to our team.
My Project
I am a brand new teacher and want to ensure that my students are equipped to make the most of this class. I need your help setting up a successful classroom! A pencil sharpener and dry erase materials will provide for note-taking, collaboration, and learning activities. The tissues and sanitizer will be helpful in keeping everyone healthy and ready to learn. Card stock paper will be used to make the lowliest of items (middle school bathroom passes-scary!), as well as the most astute (literary devices for our wall as we learn).
I want my students to feel that our classroom is a safe place to explore and create, to discover how reading and writing connect to their personal lives.
I believe that a reader/writer's notebook could greatly enhance the students' learning experience. Composition notebooks were not on my students' supplies list, and I think they are the perfect place for a reader/writer's notebook. The composition notebooks will stay in the classroom and give the students a single space to record their thoughts on our reading, their reflections on their daily lives, creative brainstorming, tools they learn from experienced writers, their own essays and poems, and much more. This will allow the students to engage on a personal level with our material and to keep all their paper from being lost. It will also help students learn the value of the writing process, as none of their quick writes will be thrown away. I hope to share with my students that not all writing has to be graded or even edited; sometimes, it can just be there for you - to help you organize your thoughts or express what's important to you.
These classroom supplies will be tools that help my students grow as critical thinkers, readers, and writers!
