Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students have learning differences and some also have sensory processing differences. Some of my students need constant reminders to focus. Some are very much aware that it is difficult for them to concentrate in the classroom and some become discouraged because they fall behind. Although they are trying to self-regulate to focus and be ready to learn, they struggle and need extra support.
Sensory tools can help students by providing them with a means to self-regulate, which can improve focus, attention, participation, and overall behavior.
Tools such as stress balls, weighted items, chair bands, and wobbly stools can help my students by allowing them to self-calm or increase focus. These can be useful tools to improve their ability to attend to a task, which can lead to increased confidence and a positive self-image. There's a lot to gain from using sensory tools!
