This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic, shy, inquisitive 4th graders. Ethnically our school is about 90% Mexican and Central American. About 50% of my students are English Language Learners of varying abilities, the rest are native English speakers. They attend a Title I, inner-city school in a community oriented neighborhood. My students and their families enjoy participating in school sponsored events.

My students desire to be challenged academically, grow exponentially, and learn mindfully.

Seeing their smiles and their passion for learning inspire me to be a better teacher.

My Project

Everyone uses mathematics daily in their lives. "Without mathematics, there's nothing you can do. Everything around you is mathematics. Everything around you is numbers." -Shakuntala Devi

Mathematics, problem solving, and critical thinking go hand-in-hand.

I want my students to be problem solvers and critical thinkers. With the help of tools like grid paper for making anchor charts and solving group problems, my students- especially my English Language Learners- will be able to use a variety of methods to solve problems, and use classroom charts as reference materials. Having access to measurement tools such as rulers, protractors, and compasses will help build my students' measurement and geometry skills.

With basic math tools and charts for making reference posters, my students will grow as mathematicians and problem solvers.
