This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is in a low socioeconomic area, and it is a Title I school. Our district does not provide any school supplies, and it falls to the teacher to provide basic necessities such as pencils.
Many students come from homes with little or no parental support, and they need us to meet needs that go beyond state standards.
It takes more than worksheets to help students be ready to move on to a higher grade. They need to have their confidence built and be secure in their ability to demonstrate proficiency in a subject. They are ready to learn, and are waiting to be set up for success!
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my students’ learning because they all need writing implements to use in every subject that we work on throughout the day. Although pencils are a part of the supply list, few families bring in enough to supply their students for a semester, let alone a whole school year. By supplying my students with these essential tools, I am helping them learn more effectively and be more creative in every subject. No student should have to worry if they will have a pencil to use in school or be ashamed that their family cannot supply them with pencils or erasers.
