My third-grade students come from a challenging, low-income, urban community. Despite what is going on outside of school, they come to our classroom excited to learn. I have a very diverse group of students whose backgrounds greatly differ. My students are energetic, ambitious, and determined to learn and succeed. My students love to be hands-on in whatever we do.
My students deserve a quality education with the materials needed to help them succeed and provide them with a desire to become lifelong learners.
I strive to make sure my students have a welcoming and caring environment in our classroom. We work hard at the beginning of every year to make sure we create acceptance and empathy towards one another so that we carry that mentality with us throughout the year as we continue to build on our relationships with one another as a team.
My Project
I personally provide my students with their supplies needed for the year on the first day of school. With increasing class sizes throughout the year, this can take a financial toll when materials need to be replaced several times throughout the year. These supplies would be used to help my students end this school year, as well as give next year's students a jump start on beginning the year with the materials they need. Most students come to school without any supplies; this can make students feel nervous and unprepared. These supplies would help ease that anxiety and allow the students to be organized and prepared from day one. The whiteboards and clipboards would allow us to work around the room in groups/partners, or outside, when the weather is nice, on various academic subjects. The dry erase markers, binders, erasers, glue sticks, crayons, and folders are materials we use every day and are often misplaced/broken; with how quickly we go through them, it is helpful to always have backup.
My students would greatly benefit from these materials to increase their ability to work together and always be prepared without looking for something to use during instruction/independent work time.
