Most of NYC public schools have adopted the Columbia University- Teacher's College Program. This program has been put to the test in many suburban schools and has proven to be successful! Children are provided with many learning experiences and have shown growth and achievement in all content areas, mostly in reading and writing. Although this program is successful in other schools, I do not feel that it works as effectively in city public schools. This is due to the lack of funding, supplies and materials. In the reading and writing program children are required to have a number of writing tools, such as yellow legal pads, colored pencils and markers, post-its, etc. This is all great, but who buys these supplies? Parents in our school are having a hard time purchasing such supplies and school budgets are being cut daily. Our supply closet has diminished and there is no money for replenishing the supplies. In the end, the children are suffering. Children are not being provided with the proper tools to succeed. This proposal, if funded, will help our students succeed. It will motivate them to write and read and produce the work they are required to do. These supplies will be used daily in all classes, by all classroom students. I am asking for your kindness and generosity in funding "Tools" for success. Give my students the opportunity to succeed in something they are good at. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
