My Project
In order to promote reading in my classroom, I need to provide my students with the tools necessary to thrive as readers. Therefore, I am in need of different types books to motivate my students, keep their interest, and keep them reading. Additionally, my students would benefit from certain tools that will enhance my instruction. For example, the use of anchor charts is essential in reminding students of all of the different reading skills/strategies we have been learning/studying in class. This is why Post-its are also necessary for students to have access to, as many students' families cannot afford to buy them. Having a variety of sticky notes of all shapes and sizes is appealing to students and will motivate them to sticky note important events based on the skills/strategies we learned in class. Markers are a great way to get students involved in sharing out on the white board or on their own anchor charts. This gets students up and moving around the room during instruction and guided practice.
Students also need incentives to continue on their reading process.
My students love bookmarks, so they act as a great prize as students finish books. I know they will especially like creating their own bookmarks with the rainbow bookmarks selected. Students also come to class without pens or pencils which are necessary to complete readers responses, jots, and other tasks. Additionally, we will use the laminating pages to laminate everyday structures that are a part of Reader's Workshop, so students will have reminders of what they are supposed to be doing during independent work time, guided practice, independent reading, and book clubs.
