Tools for Special Education

Help me give my students a voice around the classroom and tools to help with sensory regulation! I work with many non speaking students and emergent communicators who are practicing exercising agency throughout their day by using AAC.

My Project

I work with classrooms with moderate to extensive needs, where we teach students at diverse levels of language development.

These single-hit message buttons have many uses!

Using single-hit message buttons such as "break, "let's go outside," or "bathroom" can greatly reduce the cognitive load for students just learning to communicate and help them relay critical messages. Buttons programmed to say "wow" or "I'm having fun" can allow students to participate in groups and build beautiful and meaningful relationships with their peers. They can also be programmed with academic materials so students can volunteer answers or "read along" with the class.

Sensory regulation items like floor tiles can help students self-regulate so they are able to better focus and engage with lessons. They also present good opportunities to practice language such as requesting toys, describing features, or practicing turn taking.
