I am a special education resource teacher currently working with students in grades 5 through 7 (primarily grade 5). Even though my students are all in upper elementary and early middle school, they have significant gaps in reading, math, and writing. Many are still learning the very basics of reading and currently working on alphabet automaticity, letter formation, phonemic awareness skills, and early phonics skills. My students are also working on internalizing the basic math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication) that will help to make grade level math accessible to them. Because of this, they often lack confidence and disengage from tasks easily.
The resources, I am requesting, will provide me with tools for teaching beginning reading and math, while simultaneously enabling my students to learn by doing and having fun.
They will help me to foster a pull-out environment where students make great gains in reading and math while having fun and increasing their confidence.
