Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students from Las Vegas will be partnering with After School All Stars Program this school year 2018-2019 and we are very excited about it. This program will help keep children safe and help them succeed in school and in life. My 2nd graders will enter this school year excited and ready to learn.
They will collaborate with their friends through number talks and give ideas and synergize as they work on Math problems. They will take ownership with their work and build confidence as they explore solving Math problems together.
My Project
Hands-on activities that are fun and engaging makes math learning never boring! Dice games, place value, subtraction machine and number lines will make students love to learn math because they will be having fun. Measurements was one of the hardest lesson for the students to learn because it is an abstract concept so the students need concrete materials to play and learn with. Students need something tangible where they can observe and compare centimeters from inches and inches to feet. They also need concrete and tangible materials to create different shapes to fully understand the properties of shapes. Research shows that students learn better when they can connect the things they learn in real-world.
