Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most of my students come from low-income households and receive free lunch from school. They have not had much experience with the world outside their small community. Many of them are too young to start their distance learning journey at home, their difficulties are even more acute when both parents start to work as economic activities reopen.

EL students work effectively and independently if reading skills are divided into bite-size tasks.

Being able to work on their own pace is also crucial to the success in distant learning. As an educator, it is my mission to provide an effective learning materials to all my students especially during this challenging time. For most of my first graders, they don't have sufficient skills nor parental support to learn independently at home. Many depend on worksheet packets and books they have at home. Learning will be more efficient if they have resources at home to supplement online learning.

My Project

My first graders will learn their reading and writing skills with a comprehensive reading books for daily practices. Parents also found it easier to help and monitor students' progress at home.

Individual reading and writing journals can teach my students to manage their time and to be more independent learners .

It will be crucial for their future success if they are the initiator of their own learning. The materials also provide them an opportunity to exercise their skills on time management which is another important mindset for efficient learners.
