Tools for Growing Confidence and Self-Awareness to Improve Relationships
Help me give my students stability balls to use instead of chairs, squish balls for when they need to fidget to focus and a variety of activities to help them learn to navigate social interactions and grow confidence.
My students are inner city kids who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing. They are part of a program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students within one of the city's mainstream high schools.
Due to their hearing loss, many of them are academically delayed, have language delays and lack the skills needed to successfully navigate social interactions and relationship/friendship conflicts.
They are hard workers and always give it their best, but unfortunately this is not always reflected in their interactions and relationships. I believe that if they had a more visual, direct and engaging way of learning how to navigate relationships and interactions, they would gain a better understanding of how to handle situations that come their way and therefore improve their relationships. Using these lesson plan materials and materials found on Teacher Pay Teachers, the students will be able to learn about themselves, how to regulate their emotions and how to respond to situations they may encounter both in school and the real world. Also, the other materials, such as the exercise and squish balls, will keep the classroom calmer and will give the students a way to fidget to release anxiety and stress in a quiet fashion that doesn't disturb others. With all of these new additions, my students will be able to become more self-motivated and self-aware and gain confidence.
Having these supplies will help my students gain the confidence they need for the relationships in their lives and allow them to focus on their strengths rather than their weaknesses.
