My Project

Hi! I have been teaching kindergarten in the Bronx for 11 years now and I love my students! They are full of energy, curiosity, and big feelings. Each day, they come to school with open hearts, ready to learn and connect — even when it’s hard. Many of them are still learning how to manage their emotions, solve problems peacefully, and feel confident in themselves. My goal is that my classroom will be a safe place for them to grow socially and emotionally, not just academically.

The resources I’m requesting will help build a more supportive classroom environment where students feel seen, safe, and capable.

Desk dividers will be used as quiet zones during independent work time or when students need a brief break from sensory or social overstimulation. These help students self-regulate by offering a designated personal space where they can reset and refocus. The birthday graph will build classroom community and help children feel recognized and celebrated. Each child will have a visual reminder of when their special day is, fostering connection and anticipation while reinforcing a sense of belonging. The Star Reward Jar will be used to reinforce positive behavior choices, such as showing kindness, staying calm, or helping a friend. As a class, we’ll work together toward shared goals. The child mirrors will be used during emotional check-ins and SEL lessons. Students can observe their own facial expressions and begin to identify what different emotions look and feel like. This builds self-awareness and supports our classroom’s emotional vocabulary development.

By combining these tools, I hope to give my kindergarteners a strong foundation in emotional regulation, self-awareness, and empathy. Thank you for considering a gift to this project and helping us grow into calm, connected learners!
