This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are very active and hard-working from the moment they connect virtually until it is time to say goodbye. Their enthusiasm for learning is apparent as they quickly start their morning work every day. These students come from various backgrounds, mostly low-income. Teaching children from across the globe who speak little to no English is a challenge, but the one thing we all have in common is that we're excited about learning.

I have 30 beautiful children in 1st grade who come from different parts of the United States, Central, and South America.

As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, my students struggle with learning basic math and literacy skills.

This year I would like each one of my students to have their own individual toolkits with resources that will help them work on different math and literacy skills in class and at home. We need writing tablets, lap boards, and pencil boxes for our students to be successful in creating their projects and homework assignments. Many assignments require the supplies to build or create an interdisciplinary project that targets all content areas. In addition, parents and families will support students better if they have all that they need to complete these assignments. Any interaction with hands-on tools will increase their critical thinking as well as their desire to learn and use these skills in the years ahead!
