This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

So many of my students have difficulty using tools. The only tool they seem to master is the joystick for gaming. I have seen them struggle with basic tools like screw drivers and wrenches. No longer are they assembling and disassembling bicycles and minibikes. Hammering a nail is a daunting task for them.

Working with tools builds self-confidence and teaches skills that last a lifetime.

Middle school is a perfect time to introduce basic techniques that students will use as adults. Satisfaction with one's work leads to positive self-image and can boost the morale of the student.
