My Students
My students are the most curious, intrigued, entry-level programmer type students that you will ever meet. They come to school smiling, ready to take on the challenges of the day. They have to work hard. Many of them are second language learners. All of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch and once a month, Second Harvest brings my children nourishing fruits and vegetables. Life is not easy for them, but nothing is going to stop them from learning and being the best they can be.
My Project
I was fortunate enough to get funding to take the working centers Math PD. In this project, the items I have requested were used in the PD which are Tasks that help develop independence as they work in the area of math, be engaged in mathematical thinking, have opportunities to probe experiment and persevere while working at their pace and not the rigid pace that our classroom requires.
All these items require critical thinking such as Equal or not so Equal which practices forming equality and inequality statements utilizing basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Math Starters and Stumpers have a math problem for the day. But it does not stop there. There are challenge problems to the problem of the the day to continue the math thinking throughout.
The tasks come in variety of levels all regarding the same task so the students can work on the challenge card of their level. Instructions are clear and supplies are as easy as cutting up 0-9 on a piece of paper. So if a digit goes missing how easy for a student to make that tile. No more interruptions searching for missing pieces and restating the directions.
