My students come from all walks of life. Even though many of them come from high poverty backgrounds, they come in with a smile. I have a diverse group of students, who come together as a classroom family every day. I am pleasantly surprised how much they care for each other as well are other citizens in our community.
A few shining examples of student led projects include: a school wide kid to kid coat drive, trick or treat for UNICEF, and raising money for the Heifer International organization.
Students thought of these projects on their own through the inquiry based International Baccalaureate units.
These globally minded citizens are still kids, they enjoy learning through games an other hands on experiences. I want to keep them engaged in school. The more positive experiences I can provide, the more kids come to school to be a part of the community. Please help me support them as they support others.
My Project
Many of my kids come to school without breakfast from home. They get the school provided breakfast, but sometimes still don’t eat it. Our lunch time isn’t until one o’clock and by then, they regret not eating.
Imagine going through both math and reading without eating until one o’clock!
On some days I have snacks provided by families in the classroom, other days I do not. On the days I don’t the best I can do is tell them to fill their bellies with water until lunch.
Many of my families do not have funds to purchase snacks for kids at school. When they do send in snacks, it often is not healthy. I am requesting healthy snacks to help build strong minds.
