This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
It is the mission of my school to empower students as scholars and citizens so they may lead fulfilling academic, personal, and professional lives. In order to achieve this goal, our kids go to school from 7 AM to 4 PM every single day, a whopping 9 hours of solid learning. The catch here is the majority of my students are significantly behind grade level, and the majority of my 8th graders are reading and writing on 3rd and 4th grade reading levels. Therefore, in order for them to meet the high expectations that have been set, they must be disciplined and fully dedicated to empowering themselves through scholarship.
My students are eager to learn the latest technology and keep up with their peers from more affluent schools, but the vast majority of my students do not have access to computers or Internet at home and only get to use what is available in the school. Unfortunately, we do not have toner for our computer in the classroom and access to our school's copier/printer is unreliable.
Toner will help my students print the essays and other work they compose on Chromebooks.
This will help motivate their writing creativity as well as their learning. Furthermore, my students use the Internet to research information for projects and to study for exams, and having the ability to print is a necessity for successful 21st century students.
Your donations will help give students an opportunity to experience technology that they will use in high school, college, and one day in their careers. Their lives will be dramatically impacted by exposure to updated technology. The printer will not be used for just a few weeks out of the year, but will be used on a daily basis by all my students.
