We take for granted the skills and independence learning music has on children. Music provides not only a release from the struggles of life, but allows us to be creative in ways other art forms cannot. Within this creative space, music allows us to think critically, solve problems, and be independent life long learners. Our school community continually strives to provide as much music as possible but if they did not start playing music at an early age, they tend to miss out on musical opportunities afforded in a traditional music setting. Through this project, we want to kick-start our festival and concert preparation as we go for a superior rating again!
A majority of my students will be the first to attend college.
The families of my students, most who have recently immigrated to America, provide the best they can for their children within their low socioeconomic status. Within these non-traditional music experiences my students can have that release from the stresses of daily lives to be creative, forward thinking young people.
My Project
Playing in tune with your peers in an ensemble is one of the most important aspects of being a professional musician. This year, Yamaha produced a brand new tool called the harmony director that helps to assist our students in creating full, mature and in tune sounds. The students in our ensemble continually play and perform at a high level, from our beginners to our more advanced players. This harmony director is a tool that will be used every day with our students to help them to achieve adult, professional sounds every time they pick up their instruments to perform!
