"News anchors on in 3, 2, 1 ---"
"Good morning, students, and welcome to KTV."
Every morning before school, our broadcast journalism students produce a news program that is delivered live to all classrooms on campus. To improve the quality of the show, they need wireless mics.
My school is a large public junior high (1000 grade 7-8 students).
The population reflects the diversity of our town: White, Hispanic, African-American, Native American and Asian. About 50% of our students receive Title I support, and 25% qualify for free-reduced price lunch. We have an English Learner program for 20% of our students, along with RSP, Special Day and full-inclusion support.
All students choose from elective courses in band, culinary arts, wood shop, foreign language, drama, art, photography and leadership. Last year we added digital media/broadcast journalism to our electives. To give students the most authentic experiences possible, we strive to provide them with the same kind of equipment found in the professional field.
Our broadcast journalism students produce a daily news show every morning before school. They act as anchors, and operate cameras, microphones and a professional-quality tricaster. The entire school benefits from this news program.
Sound quality is an ongoing frustration for our KTV crew. We have tried microphones on stands, on a table, and currently hanging from ceiling tiles, but we continue to have issues with the sound not being loud enough when our show is on the air.
With a set of four wireless microphones, our two anchors will each have a microphone clipped to their shirt, providing for clear sound throughout the show. We often have guest appearances on our show (teachers, administrators, community guests, other students, etc.), and the extra microphones will give them the same professional sound quality as the anchors.
Bring the gift of sound to our school's daily news show!
The more professional our equipment is, the better equipped our students will be to pursue their interest in the broadcast journalism profession.
