I have 22 students and they are the most wonderful students in the world. They have wonderful personalities and a true love for learning. These students are the strongest group of 3rd graders that I have ever met. They have been through a lot in their lives and in most people's opinion they are forced to grow up a lot sooner then they should. Despite all of the challenges that they face, my students are dedicated to doing the best that they can and make the most of themselves. My students come from a low-income rural school district. We provide free breakfast and lunch every day to make sure our students are fed and have energy throughout the day to help with engagement and building a healthy, safe, and fun community. Despite our schools socioeconomic status, our students DESERVE to learn in the 21st century.
My Project
The kids will use the number lines, rulers, dry erase boards, sticky notes, and paper to work out math problems, apply skills used in word study, or share reactions to stories on the white boards. They can then hold them up so they can see each other's ideas and I can also get a sense of their understanding and engagement. They can use the post-it notes to share models of their problem solving with each other so that they can continue to learn and grow together. Then post-its work will be displayed in the hall for others to see.
