Despite our school's socioeconomic status, our students DESERVE to learn in the 21st century. My students are at a very crucial point in their schooling. My third-grade students are part of the first "Mississippi Literacy-Based Promotion Initiative." This means that in May 2015, my students will take a computerized reading test which will determine their proficiency in reading and their promotion to the fourth grade. It is my goal that ALL of my students will be reading on or above grade level regardless of their current reading levels. My students attend a public school in Holmes County, Mississippi. The school is 100% free and reduced-price lunch and is home to some of the brightest young minds in Mississippi. My class of 25 students, although forced to grow up much sooner than most children, are developing a love for learning and setting goals that will allow them to fulfill their dreams.
