I am a fourth-year art teacher in Kansas at a high risk building. This is my first year at my new building and I have high hopes for starting and running the first after school clay club.
My students love art, and I want to expose them to as many mediums as I can.
Elementary students love when they are able to work clay. The past two years I have ran an after school clay club at my previous Elementary school. I would love to start one at my new building. The materials would allow them to learn to throw on the wheel, try new glaze techniques and practice hand building strategies with clay as well.
My Project
By helping us fund the glazes and tools needed for clay club, my elementary students will be set up for success with our first clay club.
With the glazes students will be able to finish all their clay pieces beautifully with food safe glazes.
These glazes will also further students knowledge of applying glaze and texture glazes to their works they create. Students will broaden their creative knowledge with the materials needed for clay club.
Ceramics is a medium close to my heart and I love to see students just as excited about it as myself. They will be able to experience a side of clay, most elementary students don't have the opportunity to until middle/high school.
Being my first year at my new school, I would love to start a clay club that could be a lasting club for students to enjoy from year to year.
