My school is Title I and located in a small North Carolina town. It has a diverse population in which the majority of the students are economically disadvantaged. Almost half of my students are also learning English as their second language. My students are full of enthusiasm about learning but often come to school without the necessary tools. As their teacher, I want to provide them with all of the resources they need in order to learn and be successful.
My Project
My students love to read Pete the Cat books! In these stories, Pete often encounters obstacles, but he does not let them get him down. He always looks on the bright side of things.
Pete the Cat books teach the children about tolerance, acceptance, kindness and perseverance.
They have positive lessons in them that teach the children to look past differences and to always have a good attitude.
My students would benefit from having more Pete the Cat books in our classroom library! I would also like to provide them with a few seat cushions to sit on while enjoying these books.
