My Project

My high school students often enter our learning community with trauma and having overcome many challenges. Often, our classrooms become a safe place for students to develop the personal and academic skills they need to be prepared for post-secondary success.

For the time students are in the classroom, my students deserve a clean, welcoming environment to learn in.

By helping me to purchase basic cleaning supplies such as disinfecting wipes, essential classroom resources such as pencils, birthday treats, and comforting décor, I can create a safe and warm environment for my students that takes into account previous learning and non-learning related trauma.

As I enter into my 8th year teaching mathematics at HWH, I am continuing to teach Algebra 1 to primarily 9th graders with our target being passing the Pennsylvania Algebra 1 Keystone Examination. As students transition from middle school, it is so important to set clear expectations and create an intentional and comforting environment.

By prioritizing the creation of a safe and comforting space, I am able to work to create a community within my classroom where students feel comfortable, are able to be themselves, and are able to truly invest in their mathematics work.
