This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a fourth grade ELA teacher working in an urban district I understand the benefit and the value of reading. My project is aimed at helping my students become better readers. Within my two period block I provide instruction to the whole class and to small groups during intervention. This is the time available for helping students with their actual reading ability. I work to help each of my students grow as readers. This project includes reading resources for various leveled readers and supplies for students who are working independently while I work with one group. Also included in this project is a classroom set of headphones. Headphones are in short supply in my urban school district. Yet this item is used on a daily basis by all my students. During intervention other groups of students work on online intervention programs aimed at their individual levels. Headphones also help students on an emotional and social level. Students who are reading grade levels behind their classmates do not want to advertise their intervention programs. Headphones allow for privacy during this independent time. Overall , the project would provide the resources that I need to create and maintain various reading groups. My goal is to create programs and activities that would allow my students to show growth in their reading abilities.
