This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a teacher on the west side of Detroit. Detroit is in the mist of rebuilding economically, culturally, and educationally. The foundation for change begins with our children. I have dedicated my career to providing a safe, loving and supportive environment for my students to learn and grow. My students are remarkable, creative, young people, who love to sing, dance, laugh and learn! They fill each other and myself with joy every day.
Despite some of the struggles they face daily, my students come to school excited to learn and grow.
They are true preservers. Students come in with experiences that would make you cry; yet they smile, pick up their pencil and try to do the best work they possible can. I am incredibly proud of every one of them!
My Project
This project will help support my students by providing basic supplies for our classroom. I purchased a small printer for the classroom, as our school copier does not always work. Ink is needed to print off student assignments and worksheets. I have been supplying my own ink thus far.
Every item in this project will be used daily.
We use to color pencils to organize our writing. Visuals help students create a paragraph that makes sense and conveys details. Using colored pencils also keeps the students engaged in learning.
With your help, we can create strong writers and readers in Detroit.
