Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our classroom library has expanded over the years, but we could always add more innovative books for the students to read and listen to. Additional mentor texts that are culturally relevant will enhance my students' cultural understanding and appreciation for themselves, others, and our world.
As Margaret Fuller once said, "Today a reader, tomorrow a leader." Children can learn and grow to become compassionate, patient, kind, and helpful people by reading or listening to stories.
I believe they develop into better citizens when they hear a story that resonates with them and allows them to connect to it in some way.
My students are enthusiastic learners and I love reading books aloud to them. They are always engaged and actively listening, no matter what their academic ability is. Students of all levels can enjoy and learn from me reading aloud to them. They gain essential skills such as reading with expression, making inferences, or identifying themes.
Our school rules are "Be Safe", "Be Respectful", "Be Responsible", and "Be Kind". These culturally relevant books also have appropriate themes for my students to understand these rules better, which will lead them to be better leaders of our school and the future!
