Help me give my students a new school library filled with a variety of genres, leveled readers, and imagination. Help us create readers who will become future leaders.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Currently our students do not have a library. My goal is to build a more substantial robust library, so my various reading level students have more access to learning. Better libraries mean more literacy development for younger readers as well as for high school students. Studies show a positive relationship between library quality (school and public) and the amount read, as well as a relationship with reading competence. Students in schools with good school libraries learn more, get better grades, and score higher on standardized test scores than their peers in schools without libraries. Students who have immediate and ongoing access to engaging books in their classrooms exhibit higher reading achievement, better comprehension and an increased vocabulary. Our students do not have the opportunities to walk to a neighborhood library, or regular access to books.
We want to provide students the opportunity to have books in hands daily, so they can become readers and writers.
Better libraries mean more literacy development for younger readers , which will enhance literacy in later learning. Creating a whole school library will increase the amount of book students get exposed to. Allow them to expand their knowledge across genres, research, and grow a love for reading!
