The moment my students walked into my room, their eyes immediately lit up with excitement at the sight of the new materials.\r\n\r\nI continue to be in awe of the transformation that the right counseling tools can spark. The puppet and theater set, in particular, have brought lessons to life in the most powerful way. My students now have the opportunity to express their feelings through storytelling and role-play, using the coping strategies they've learned to model empathy and resilience. One especially shy student who struggles with severe anxiety has found newfound confidence behind the stage—so much so that they've even suggested performing for younger students to teach them social-emotional skills. The puppet theater has quickly become the most requested activity in my office. The marble run comes in close second, offering students a hands-on way to build focus, perseverance, and a sense of pride in their creations. Later this week, students will open the river rock craft set to design personal reminders of their inner strengths—anchors they can hold onto during challenging times.\r\n\r\nAt a time when so many educators face uncertainty around school and district funding, your generosity shines as a reminder that our work matters and that our students are worth investing in. I wish I could bottle the laughter, joy, and sense of calm that fills the room when children feel seen, heard, and supported through play. Please know that your kindness is creating lasting ripples of positivity that extend far beyond our school walls.","fullyFundedDate":1749353793175,"projectUrl":"project/healing-through-play/9386313/","projectTitle":"Healing Through Play","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Barajas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9904377"},{"teacherId":9997343,"projectId":9252439,"letterContent":"We are absolutely thrilled and deeply grateful for your generous support of our DonorsChoose project\r\nThanks to contributors like you, our project is fully funded, and we have ordered a brand new set of durable outdoor table games for our students! This is going to make a significant, positive change in our daily recess routine.\r\n\r\nThese games—including jenga other strategy challenges—will provide our students with a fantastic new outlet for engagement. Recess isn't just about running; it's about social-emotional development. These tables will create a wonderful, calming hub where students can practice cooperation, problem-solving, and sportsmanship in a focused way. They offer a great alternative for the students who thrive in a more structured play environment.\r\n\r\nYour belief in our students and our vision for a more inclusive recess environment is truly inspiring. Please know that your contribution has made a direct and tangible impact on the lives of our first-graders and beyond.\r\n\r\nWe can't wait to share photos and stories of the students gathered around their new tables, building memories and critical thinking skills. It was the best Christmas present any school counselor could hope for. Our school budget is very small and through this donor choose project we were able to receive 6 books full of curriculum for group creation as well information to use in individual sessions, 2 books about emotion regulation, 3 sensory tools, 3 anger management tools, a feelings chart and a wonderfully written book to help children process grief (Cape). \r\nThe curriculum received has assisted in the creation of groups, the tools have aided in classroom lessons and individual sessions such as using the chill skills to address how to handle conflict or the anger ball to open up dialogue around anger management. Sensory items have allowed me to reward students for participation with items that will aid them in emotion regulation. Without you none of this would have been possible.
