Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Reading is an important part of a student's understanding of words, story telling, and subjects. Not only does learning how to read at a young age help students learn how to express themselves, but also improves newly learned concepts. While learning pre-literacy skills like letter identification and corresponding sounds in preschool, my kindergarten students will learn more concepts like sight word identification, segmenting, blending digraphs, diphthongs, cvc words, and vocabulary in kindergarten. Creating a Reading Readiness Center in the classroom will not only help my students strengthen these new skills in kindergarten, but also provide a quiet area where they can explore different literature.

The area rug and the gray Big Joe Milano Beanbag Chairs will be used to create a more comfortable and inviting reading readiness center to encourage students to explore their reading interests.

The bookshelf will serve as a tool for the students to practice responsibility by taking care of the classroom items and a place to store the books. The books, including the First Little Readers, I requested will help fill the students' interest in literacy and practice new reading skills. The books will provide an opportunity for the students to practice recognizing different vocabulary words discussed in lessons, identifying concepts of print, and practice reading simple sentences. Students will be able to choose books filled within the bookshelf that spark their interest and explore different topics.

I hope that you consider donating to my classroom. My students and I will appreciate and treasure these items for our reading readiness center!
